Domain Name Definitions
Domain name is used to identify one or more IP (Internet protocol) addresses. Domain name is formed by the rules and procedures of domain name systems. (DNS) it is basically address or like a phone no. written in telephone directory.
Domain name has suffix that indicates which top level domain it belongs to. Any organization or an individual can register a unique domain name by paying some amount to Registrar Company.
Some of the following definitions are:
* www- (world wide web)- it connects IP addresses with the Internet.
* HTTP- Documents on the World Wide Web are written in a simple “markup language” called HTML, which stands for Hypertext Markup Language. HTML files are meant to be viewed using a browser, such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
Generic top level domains- it is the most frequently used domains.
Ex- .com-commercial business.
.org- organization
*Generic restricted top level domains.
Ex- .biz- business
.name
*sponsored top level domains.- these type of domains establish and enforce rules, restricting the eligibility of general user.
Ex- .edu- education
.gov- government
*country code top level domains-
Ex- .in-India
.th- Thailand
*Reserved top level domains- these are reserved by Internet assigned numbers authority. (IANA)
Ex- .test
.example
.invalid
*URL-(uniform resource locator) – it often contains additional data beyond the domain name.
